When you take a look at the Jordan Brand, there are not many signature athletes living up to the greatness (championships) that Michael Jordan made a standard. No one except Maya Moore, the all-star small forward for the WNBA’s Minnesota Lynx and four-time WNBA champion.
With Maya Moore and her winning ways, it’s easy to see her as the athlete in the Jordan Brand stable closest to MJ’s throne of greatness. Yes, it’s a topic of conversation in the barbershops, but Jordan Brand wanted to take the conversation a step farther and make bold statement about Maya’s place in the game today and in history. What better way to announce Maya Moore as Heir Jordan than recreating one of MJ’s most iconic images in her likeness. In 1989, Nike debuted the ‘WINGS’ poster, during MJ’s ascension into the NBA’s most exciting player and one of marketing’s most recognizable faces. In this ad, we aimed to create a new icon with Maya Moore, one of the game’s most exciting players and recognizable faces. With this ad, we were able to make the bold statement to the world, that you don’t have to want to be like Mike or Kawhi or Russ, but you can be like Maya.
The ad launched on Jordan Brand’s digital channels as well as a giant billboard outside of Minnesota’s Target Center, coinciding with the Lynx’s 2018 season opener against the Los Angeles Sparks.
